It was a beautiful Thanksgiving Monday Holiday Oct/12 fall morning. Cabby Ken decided to drive to the Sault, and check out what he’s getting for fuel mileage on a recent delivery of my GMC – 305 – 5 Litre Truck, before installing my Hydro Carbon fuel saving technology.
Morning started out fine, filled up gas tank, recorded mileage, headed west on Hwy 17 from Sudbury ON. Roads were not busy yet with the return of the holiday travellers.
I set my cruise control at 90 km/hr..and was enjoying the fall leaves changing their colours, What a beautiful site!

Cabby Ken
About an hour and a half into my trip..2 east bound cars coming towards me, started flashing their lights at me. Cars are warning me that there is a Radar Trap ahead..and apparently that is Illegal..I mean flashing your lights at an oncoming car..Anyways Cabby Ken taps his brakes to knock off the cruise control. Shortly after I see a 70 km/hr sign just ahead.
I’m coming up to Serpent River Indian Reservation..A spot I know well, saw a bad accident there years ago! So by the time I hit the first 70 km/hr. sign I’m doing 70km. I’m now at the top of a hill, I can see the Black and White Cruisers below. Three (3) of Them..Then I glance in my rear view, and see a truck approaching fast on me..So Cabby Ken taps on his brake 2 or 3 times to Warn him to slow..so he doesn’t rear end me!..And he slows down..
So next thing you know we are Both getting pulled over, and I’m thinking Shit..I have a burnt out headlight our something?
So one of the Officers of the Day approaches my open window and Says, “I clocked you at 105 km/hr”. First words from Cabby Ken were NO WAY!!! Well now his defences are up, along with emotions. But I will admit he was very professional!
I have had 2 speeding ticket in my life, and I forgot how hard it can be to talk your way out of a Ticket..Oh Cabby Ken tried..I kept telling the Officer that something is not right here..Did you ping me off the other guy? Is your radar gun broken? Maybe my speedometer is out of whack?
Officer then gave me a 2 minute speech, about why they are out doing what they do, keeping the roads safe, and so on and so on..Hey it’s all a good thing so Cabby Ken listens..
Next he says..”Driver’s license, Insurance, and Registration please”. And goes to his Black and White, leaving Cabby Ken sitting and thinking. I couldn’t believe it, and just couldn’t figure this whole thing out! Remember I mentioned the truck behind me? Well he’s getting a Ticket too..
Then my Officer comes back to my window, with ticket in hand and says..Today is your Lucky Day, I am going to go easy on YOU and charge you for only going 15 km/hr over the speed limit, instead of 35 over, which by the way brings a fine of, I think he said $250.00 dollars..PLUS Three (3) Demerit Points..So Cabby Ken’s fine is now $52.50..no Demerit points..
I’m still sitting there trying to reason with the Officer. Then I ask him if I could turn around, go to the top of the hill, and have him clock me on radar again! I just had to know if my speedometer was off!…To my surprise he said Yes..I then asked him, if I’m over 70km, do I get another ticket?..This was the first time i saw him grin
.
So back up the hill Cabby Ken goes, turns around, and heads back to the Radar Trap, sees officer with radar gun in hand clocking Cabby Ken for the second time..Nope Cabby Kens speedometer is not broken. He tracked me at 70km/hr.
So after talking with the officer briefly for the last time we said goodbye..I then pulled ahead to the other truck getting a ticket, got out and went to his window and asked, “Do you think you were Speeding?” His response in broken English was OH YA.
A Final Thought:
1st: I will fight this in court!
2nd: I believe I got pinged on radar with the other truck! or..faulty radar equipment or..the look of my ride or…I don’t know…I do know I was not speeding!!
3rd: Why would anyone speed up..and remember I was on 90 km/hr cruise control. When I know I’m coming up on a 70/km zone, AND people are warning you before with their head lights?
4th: Cabby Ken was very conscious of his speed the whole trip there and back..Remember I was checking my fuel mileage, before I put my Hydro Carbon technology on to save fuel..I wanted to have real data for real results..So watching my speed was an issue with Cabby Ken.
Happy Mileage,

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWell mister Ken if you weren’t speeding and you are absolutely sure of this then maybe there is a simple explanation to the “Money Grab”.Let’s see sun rises in the east and sets in the west was the officers led light on his radar facing the sun maybe? or was the sun shinning brightly on your dash that you could have misread your speed.Either way something went wrong and you have the extra expense from your trip re:speeding ticket.I’ll tell you this if this was a “Money trap” suck it up and be thankful he let you go with a $52.50 fine and no demerit points lost.It comes down to this fight the ticket by dragging this cop into court and wasting his time for being a nice guy and letting you go cheap. You need to remind yourself that you often make this trip west to the Sault think of what might happen if this same cop catches you speeding or maybe even just driving by him again after he was nice and you dragged him into court???.Might not be so pleasant next time.My advice pay the $52.50 and be done with it guaranteed this is the cheapest and best way to deal with this.
Love your Comment Mr. Sudbury..But I already mailed in my ticket..”not guilty”. So i do have the expense of going to court..
Here is the way i look at it..”Quote..Mark Twain..If you tell the truth you don’t have to remember Anything!”
I was not speeding, and if i was, I would suck it up!.
Love your theory of the Sun…Will look into it!
Technology is great, when it works…..
Great picture. You must have a talented photographer!
Good luck with the ticket.
Oh and yes i do Rayvin!!
Suck it up? The cop was being nice? Let’s all roll over and play dead! You only have rights if you stand up for them.
